Prestonfield's Green Guest Charter

At Prestonfield we are working hard to help make Scotland one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly destinations.

Our guests have an important role to play, so we welcome your support and hope that you will consider some of our green initiatives during your visit.

Some things you may choose to do to help us to protect Scotland’s environment include:

Leave the car. There are wonderful walking and running routes from Prestonfield that lead you into Holyrood Park or why not take advantage of our complimentary mountain bikes and go for a cycle?

Enjoy what we have to offer here at Prestonfield. Why not try croquet, take a turn on the putting green, book a game of golf or just spend time enjoying the gardens and grounds. Inside you’ll find lots of quiet corners to enjoy a book by the fireside, a huge collection of board games and libraries of books, CDs and DVDs for you to enjoy.

Switch off. Please consider turning the heating down and turning off lights and appliances when you leave your room.

Help us recycle. Prestonfield now recycles most of its waste – from plastics, card and glass to spare toiletries and is the first hotel in the city to send all food waste away for composting.

Buy something local. Our concierge team will be happy to direct you to some local suppliers whose produce will give you a real flavour of Scotland and help support Scottish businesses and communities too. We can direct you to some great speciality shopping, whether you are looking for locally-produced food and drinks, Scottish-made fabrics, cashmere, jewellery or antiques - the original recyclables!

Laundry. Lots of fluffy towels are a luxury hotel treat, but can waste huge quantities of water, energy and detergent. If you are happy with your towels please leave them on the heated rail or, throw them in the bath, and we’ll replace them for you as needed.

If you would like to help us save water and resources by changing your bed linen every second day rather than daily, then please let us know.

Support one of our nominated charities. We will soon add a voluntary £1 to each guest bill to help support our nominated charity, the Prince’s Trust. Every pound is invested in Scotland, helping to change young lives for the better and encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves.
