Fact Sheet
''The most glamorous hotel in town'' - The Independent. ''It's not difficult to see why the AA named Prestonfield its hotel of the year. James Thomson's grand hotel has a restaurant to match the sprawling decadence'' - The Times. ''Edinburgh's most exciting hotel...exudes opulent individual style that is unrivalled anywhere else in the city''- Time Out.
Built as the grand baroque home of Edinburgh's Lord Provost, Prestonfield is now Edinburgh's most luxurious five-star hotel with 23 stylishly opulent rooms and suites. Named as a Hotel of the Year, Prestonfield is Edinburgh’s highest rated hotel, holding the AA's highest grading, a rare 5 Red Stars, alongside VisitScotland's highest grading of 5 Gold Stars. In 2012 Prestonfield was the highest ranked Scottish hotel in TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice Awards and the only Scottish Hotel in their list of Europe's top 25 Luxury Hotels.
Described by Time Out as Edinburgh's star restaurateur, owner James Thomson's vision was to create a compelling alternative today's plethora of bland and unexceptional hotels. Prestonfield is a very personal creation, a fusion of historic architecture, an extensive collection of art and antiques, and décor every bit as rich and colourful as the history of the house itself.
Opulence, theatre and luxury are combined in the quirky and stylish reworking of this A-listed historic hotel where minimalism is banished and maximalism rules! In addition to the dramatically romantic bedrooms and sumptuously luxurious suites, there is a destination restaurant – Rhubarb – and a collection of stunning private dining rooms, opulent salons and impressive public rooms.
Prestonfield has been at the heart of Scotland's artistic, social, business and political life for over four centuries - as a luxury hotel, it remains so today. A discreet and luxurious hotel since the 1950s, Prestonfield has always welcomed Presidents, Princes and stars of stage and screen.
In addition to the hotel’s own five stars, stars of every age, from Grace de Monaco, Lauren Bacall and Jessie Norman to the Dali Lama and Oliver Reed, Elton John and Sean Connery have enjoyed the hotel’s unique luxury. Prestonfield’s star-studded reputation continues as it remains the Edinburgh base of many contemporary authors, artists, actors, designers and performers.
