Private Dining

Prestonfield has been a destination for Edinburgh diners for centuries. Today you can still dine in rooms used by Boswell, Dr Johnson and Benjamin Franklin which have been at the heart of Edinburgh's artistic, social, literary and political life for over three centuries.

Whilst the settings may be recognisable, the cooking has improved since the 17th century! Now you can select from bespoke private dining menus each packed with seasonal delights including choice menus for parties of up to 24 guests. One of the world's greatest wine lists is yours for the choosing and exceptional cocktails and canapes will set the scene for your event.

Few events would not be enhanced set in Prestonfield's private dining rooms. Each historic room has its own charms and attractions but all offer uniquely memorable dining in a magical setting.

Italian Room

Dramatically panelled with painted Italian scenes as a souvenir of an eighteenth century Grand Tour, the green and gilt Italian Room is simply the most sought-after private dining room in the city. If you can dine in a work of art, this is it! With its log fire and rich oak floor it is a historic room like no other

Dine in a room that has played host to Presidents, Prime Ministers, Royalty and stars of every age - from Boswell, Johnson and Benjamin Franklin to Oliver Reed, Lauren Bacall and Elton John. The Italian room also makes an impressive meeting or presentation room or venue for small receptions. It can be used in combination with the adjacent Whisky Room for pre-dinner drinks.

The Italian Room accommodates up to 16 diners on a single table and up to 24 diners in a variety of formats.

Stuart Room

If ever there were a room that was rich, ripe and dissolute then the Stuart may be it! This sumptuous private room glowing red, black and gilt décor was named to recognise Prestonfield's long Royal heritage.

A portrait of Mary Queen of Scots still hangs in the room today and there are views to the ruins of Craigmillar castle, where Mary fled after the murder of Rizzio.

The Stuart Room seats up to 24 diners on circular tables and 16 on a single table.

Garden Room

The bright and elegant Garden room is Prestonfield's largest private dining and meeting room. Lined with hand-painted Chinese silk wallpaper and chinoiserie furnishings, French doors lead onto its own private covered terrace and the gardens beyond.

The Garden Room makes an enchanting venue for a larger private dinners, small weddings or wedding breakfasts.

The Garden Room seats up to 50 guests on circular tables and other numbers in a variety of formats.

Salon Priveé

Prestonfield smallest private room is the most luxurious dining retreat for just two guests.

Hidden off of a stone turret stair, this tiny salon is a glamorous opera-box of a room, overlooking the rose garden. A unique venue for dinner-a-deux, or afternoon tea, it also makes a great place for private meetings, interviews...and proposals!

Rhubarb

Our  richly decorated and oh-so glamorous restaurant occupies a pair of grand curved Regency dining rooms at the heart of  Prestonfield. It is James Thomson's most-recent destination restaurant and possibly the most spectacular to date.

Occasionally Rhubarb is available for private dining on an exclusive-use basis - when we close the doors to all guests but yours. This is the go-to destination when you simply must impress!

Rhubarb exclusively yours all the history and character of a historic venue with all the comfort and service of a 5-star hotel. The culinary delights of one of the city's best kitchens is right on hand to deliver sensational food and our cellar is packed with delights.

Up to 26 guests can dine at a single table, up to 50 guests on circular tables, or 100 lucky guests when both rooms used as a pair.
