James Thomson has a reputation as a restauranteur who understands the place of fine wine with fine food in luxurious surroundings. The wine list at the Witchery has long been regarded as the best in Scotland and the extensive selection at Prestonfield continues this tradition.
The list is rich with deep selections of the classic wines of France and the rest of Europe. The First Growths of Bordeaux all feature with multiple listings along with many vintages of the great Château D’Yquem. Our Burgundy section features wines James himself has purchased at the famous Hospices de Beaune Auction alongside legendary producers such as Georges du Vogüé and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti . Europe’s other wine producing countries are covered in detail with a page filled with wonderful Barolos and multiple vintages of Spain’s finest wine, Vega Sicilia. The rest of the World does not get left behind from the Cult Cabernets of California to a vertical of Penfold’s Grange.
As well as an embarrassment of collectables we are not afraid of stepping off the well trodden path to find future classics made with integrity and skill from around the World. From small producers scattered around Europe to pioneers in South Africa’s Swartland or Pinot Noir from the southerly extreme of New Zealand’s Central Otago. We try to seek out wines that are simply too delicious to ignore.
Please come and enjoy a glass of wine with us, whether it be a glass of Rosé on our well manicured lawns or something more hedonistic in the comfort of the House.
